Current Goals

At this time, property tax exemption is our top priority. Leaders of Veteran organizations and Kansas residents alike have expressed that this is the most important benefit for disabled Veterans.

Kansas tax credit (Completed)

Disabled veterans who are honorably discharged and receive 100% disability compensation from the VA are eligible for a $2,250 exemption on their Kansas state income tax return.

Sales Tax Exemption (Completed)

Kansas will begin exempting 100% service connected disabled veterans from sales tax on July 1, 2026:

  • The exemption applies to purchases up to $24,000 per year

  • It does not apply to motor vehicles, alcohol, tobacco, or electronic cigarettes

  • To claim the exemption, veterans must apply to the Secretary of Revenue

  • Veterans will receive an exemption number and a driver's license sized certificate to present to retailers

  • The exemption also applies to the surviving spouse of an eligible veteran until they remarry
